Towson Sports Medicine is recognized as being the best and the largest orthopaedic rehabilitation facilities in the Baltimore area. Our staff of physicians, physical therapists and certified athletic trainers has been serving patients for more than 75 years.

Towson Sports Medicine Center offers a comprehensive rehabilitation program for injured and post-surgical patients as well as the competitive, weekend and occasional athlete of any age.

We are dedicated to providing superior care to those individuals whose lives are entrusted to us.

 

What is offered at TSM?

Physical Therapy

  • Physical therapy is provided and supervised by State of Maryland licensed physical therapists. Physical therapy will aid patients in returning to an optimal level of function following injury or illness. The physical therapists use patient education, therapeutic exercise, modalities such as ice, heat, ultrasound, and TENS, splinting and hands-on manual therapy to aid patient in their recovery goals.  Physical therapy services are offered for general orthopaedic and post-surgical treatment.

Occupational Therapy

  • A licensed occupational therapist, certified in hand therapy, works closely with the surgeons at Orthopaedic Associates to evaluate, treat, and splint the most complex hand and wrist injuries.

Certified Athletic Trainers

  • Currently Towson Sports Medicine provides athletic training coverage for: the Baltimore Bayhawks, professional outdoor lacrosse team and The Maryland Orioles and The Red Birds, amateur baseball teams.  Athletic training services are also provided for Baltimore Lutheran High School, Maryvale, Towson High School, Towson Catholic, Institute of Notre Dame, Mercy High School, St. Timothy's, The Calvert School, Towson University club sports as well as, additional high schools, summer camps and tournaments throughout the Baltimore and Washington D.C. metropolitan area.  Additionally, one Certified Athletic Trainer serves as a physician extender by working closely with Dr. McCambridge, who specializes in pediatric sports medicine.

 

Aquatic Therapy

  • Aquatic Therapy is an excellent form of treatment to aid patients with increasing mobility, strength, and flexibility due to the buoyant properties of the water. Many different aquatic exercise programs can be designed, from programs for post physical therapy patients to chronic pain sufferers, as well as for those looking to lose weight and gain fitness. Therapy is directly supervised by physical therapists trained in aquatic exercise.

Self-Pay Gym

  • This program is similar to the Self-Pay Gym/Pool Combo, however, each individual program is only designed for exercises in the gym.  This program is also run on a self-pay basis, with new sessions beginning the first week of every month and include 8 one-hour time slots for the gym.  Additionally, patients can sign up per session. 

 

Self-Pay Pool

  • This program is similar to the Self-Pay Gym/Pool Combo, however, each individual program is only designed for exercises in the pool.  This program is also run on a self-pay basis, with new sessions beginning the first week of every month and include 8 one-hour time slots for the gym.  Additionally, patients can sign up per session. 

 

 

Self-Pay Gym/Pool Combo

  • The Self-Pay Gym/Pool Combo is a program designed for those patients or clients who would like to continue, maintain, or begin an exercise program for physical fitness by working out in both the gym and the pool.  Each individual program is designed to meet the needs and goals of each patient.  This program is run strictly on a self-pay basis and we will not bill the insurance companies.  New sessions begin the first week of every month, which include 4 one-hour time slots for the gym, as well as 4 one-hour time slots for the pool. 

The Women's Sports Medicine Center

  • The Women's Sports Medicine Center offers a comprehensive treatment approach to the female athletes.  The center's team of specially trained healthcare professionals focuses on the treatment, training, and nutritional demands unique to the female athlete.  Medical treatment and programs are offered for sports injuries, nutritional counseling, psychiatric counseling, disease prevention, female athlete triad, and eating disorders.

 

The Running Center

  • The Running Center is a program designed for runners of all ages. This program includes a complete injury evaluation, a home program specifically designed for each individual, and referrals for biomechanical gait analysis and orthotics. Injuries seen by appointment only.   

Knee Injury (ACL) Prevention Program

  • This program is being used to enhance an athlete's agility and quickness on the field and decrease risk of ACL injury. Our goal is to give athletes the tools they need to not only stay in the game, but also have more power in their game. Contact TSM at 410-337-8847.

The Massage Clinic

  • Therapeutic Massage treatments are designed to assist with medical conditions such as orthopaedic injuries and chronic pain.  Our Therapists are Board Certified and are available on an appointment only basis.

Yoga Sessions

  • Yoga is uniting all the powers of body, mind and soul. It assists with disciplining of the intellect, the mind, and the emotions of the body. Sessions are by appointment only. Classes are available Wednesday night 5:30-6:45. Private sessions available Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. Contact Bonnie Tarantino at 410-274-7079. 

Childhood Weight Management Program: Fit-n-Fun

    Orthopaedic Associates and Towson Sports Medicine are now offering a comprehensive program to help overweight children to lose weight and develop a healthy and active lifestyle. The program is called Fit-n-Fun and it includes fun aerobic activites, educational and nutritional information and psychological counseling.

    The Fit-n-Fun staff includes Teri McCambridge, MD, Director, Anita Sharma, PhD, Psychologist, and Stephanie Adams, MEd, ATC, Program Coordinator and Educator. Admission into the program is on a referral base only.

The Sports Injuries Walk-In Clinic

  • The Walk-In Clinic is designed for college-aged athletes or younger who need a sports injury evaluation.
